If You Don’t Grow The Team, You Can’t Grow The Business

As a leader, your number one job is not to grow the company but to grow your people – who will then grow the company. Part of your mission is to get knowledge into their brain so they can be the best of who they are.

Now, how do you do that?

Here are some ways to help get your people on the right path so you can get the traction you need for your business:

1. Help them become the best human beings first.

Create concepts that help your people become the best human beings first so then they can become great team members for your business. When your team grows, your customers will benefit. If you grow your people in the right environment, they think you care about them, and you set the vision (the way you want to go), they will help you get there.

All of this comes back to having systems that are scalable, sustainable, and personal so you can nurture your people towards success, and in return, they can care and help you reach your goals.

2. Give your team permission to fail.

You can best learn by getting lost and finding your way. Now, you need to extend that permission to your teams. Give them permission to get things wrong so they can figure out a way to get things right.

Sometimes, we have the tendency to micromanage people. We want to tell them exactly what to do because we think they’re going to screw it up. But if we give them permission to fail, this will also give them the permission to figure things out.

If it’s worth doing, then it’s worth doing wrong.

3. Expose your team to a ton of thought leadership.

Arm your team with as many experiences so they can learn from those. One way of doing that is by encouraging them to read books so they can learn from the experiences of others.

Check out Better Book Club, a recognition and rewards platform built to promote reading within your organization. It’s a mistake to think that everybody needs to read a book each month. If you can get your team members to read a book and absorb a book a quarter, you will be world-class, the ideas will flow, and their experiences will grow.
