Get Gifting Right

Too many companies send generic gifts (company swag or a Starbucks gift card) out to their clients as thank-you gifts. If you want to stand out, get gifting right, you need to personalize your gifts. Watch the following 60-second video on how we WOWed Jesse Cole, founder of the Savannah Bananas, someone who knows a thing or two about WOWing customers.

Why You Should Not Send Your Top Customers Holiday Gifts

Your customers don’t want your brownies – As 2024 comes to an end, businesses start thinking about how they will show their appreciation to their customers. One of the most common ways is to send their clients a holiday gift between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. I strongly encourage you not to do this. Think about it: how many gifts get sent to your office during this time? Dozens. Your gift will get lost with all the other ones your customers receive. I know you think they love the brownies you have sent over the last 20 years. Instead, consider sending your customers an appreciation gift in February or June. It will stand out and be the only gift and thank you card your client receives during that time. I promise you; no one will even notice you didn’t send the brownies this year.

Helping Puerto Rico create a Customer Service Revolution

I recently did a speaking tour in Puerto Rico, speaking for several different businesses.

As a result, I was featured in the W Journal Puerto Rico and The Caribbean

The Power of UBUNTU

Now more than ever, with social isolation caused by a digital revolution, we lack community in all areas of our lives. “Ubuntu” is a term originating from southern Africa that can be translated to mean “humanity” or “humaneness.” Ubuntu is more commonly defined as “I am because we are.” A powerful expression, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all people and the idea that one’s humanity is intertwined with the humanity of others.

The first time I heard the word Ubuntu was when I was watching former Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz’s, powerful commencement speech to the 2017 graduating class at Arizona State University.

Ubuntu is often used to express a sense of shared humanity and interconnectedness, encapsulating the belief that our compassion and kindness towards others define who we are. The concept emphasizes community, shared responsibility, and the importance of relationships in fostering a sense of belonging and well-being.

Ubuntu Leadership

Ubuntu inspires a style of leadership that focuses on serving others, promoting community well-being, and fostering positive relationships. The phrase implies a sense of responsibility to others, encouraging compassionate and empathetic behavior towards all members of the community.

Building Community

“Ubuntu – I am because we are” encourages the building of strong, supportive communities where members look out for one another. It promotes a sense of unity and belonging, helping to break down barriers between individuals and fostering a sense of shared identity. The philosophy encourages altruistic behavior, advocating for acts of kindness and generosity as integral to one’s own well-being.

I also enjoyed this TEDx talk by Shola Richards titled Ubuntu: The One Word to Change How You Work, Live and Lead. In this vulnerable and thought-provoking talk, Richards addresses a crucial question: What if our global mindset were refocused on the transcendent concept of Ubuntu—the African philosophy that embodies the power of human connectedness, kindness, and compassion?

How can we incorporate the Ubuntu philosophy in our businesses?

What a better workplace culture, society, and world it would be if we all believed in and practiced the philosophy of Ubuntu. We are all dependent on each other. The belief that our compassion and kindness towards others define who we are, what we can accomplish together, as a team, with a shared vision, is truly limitless.
